Advantages and disadvantages of living in a block of flats

block of flats living

When we think about big city architecture, one of our first thoughts is a multi-story apartment building. Since the 1950s, the blocks have become a permanent element of the landscape of smaller and larger cities. Buying an apartment in such a building still turns out to be the goal of a large group of investors, as evidenced by, for example, subsequent projects sold out on the trunk. In this post, we check the biggest advantages and disadvantages of living in a block of flats.

The most characteristic element of metropolitan architecture

Apartments in a block of flats are a relatively new invention. The first apartment blocks were built before the Second World War. The most characteristic representative of this type of construction are blocks made of large slabs, which still dominate the largest Polish cities. From the technical point of view, buildings are quite crude, especially by today's standards, for years they have been and still are home for a large group of people. Residents brought up "on the estate" often cannot imagine living in different conditions, because despite the large number of neighbors, they are associated with a very high comfort. Hence, the unflagging popularity of the "new blocks" among the next generations. Of course, habits are not enough. Modern construction with its achievements means that the term "block" does not have a pejorative overtone at present,

Apartment in a block of flats - Advantages

Modern apartments in the block of flats have all the advantages of "older blocks", and at the same time eliminate most of the drawbacks that the inhabitants of prefabricated buildings could have complained about. A convenient location in the center or in a green space not far from the heart of the city is a convenience and comfort for both singles and families with children. It means proximity to the workplace, which can be reached by public transport, as well as a rich entertainment and educational offer.

Easy access to all facilities

Especially in larger cities, living in a block of flats guarantees access to schools and extracurricular activities for children. Adults, on the other hand, use restaurants, cinemas, theaters, clubs, cafes and many other opportunities that are in vain to look for on the outskirts of the agglomeration or in the provinces. In addition, there is also a much better health service.

In addition to the location, the convenience of use should also be mentioned. The resident of the block does not have to worry about heating, problems with the delivery of multimedia services, garbage collection or other similar aspects. All these elements are part of the rent.

It cannot be forgotten that a flat in a block of flats is an excellent investment. Due to the processes related to migration from smaller towns to cities, there will be many people willing to rent for many years. Especially when our premises are located in a city attractive in terms of tourism, employment or higher education. Added to this is the high quality of workmanship, using modern materials and technologies. This translates into maintaining or even increasing the value of the property over the years.

Apartment in a block of flats - Disadvantages

All the advantages mentioned above seem to suggest that life in the block is a real idyll. It is indeed ... if we can accept a few flaws. The first is neighborhood. When choosing an apartment in a block of flats, we necessarily agree with a large group of neighbors. If they are families or the elderly, there are usually no problems. Worse, if the owner of the neighboring premises decides to rent it to tenants who behave loudly at unused times. In addition, there is pollution of the environment with smog (especially in the very center), the hustle and bustle and lack of a garden, and generally less access to greenery than outside the city. It is also worth remembering about prices. In larger cities, if we talk about a larger area, these often equate to building your own house of a similar size outside the city.
