Apartment or House? Pros and Cons of Both Solutions.

apartment or house pros and cons

Choosing a property in which we want to live is a very difficult and responsible decision. We should use common sense when it comes to it, taking into account what our life will be like in five, ten or more years. You should also take into account how the neighborhood where we currently live may change, how it is and how it can be connected in some time. It is good to prepare for yourself a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of various solutions, so that the final decision is the result of an informed choice.

Flat

choosing a flat tips

Benefits

One of the advantages of the apartment will be its easy accessibility. In the case of a large city, there are such cases that we can find a suitable apartment within just a few days. Simply put, quite often we will find something that will simply suit us. In addition, when arranging an apartment, we do not have to spend as much time as in the case of a house.

Location is also very important. From your apartment, whether in the center or on the outskirts of the city - you are always closer. And usually, in housing estates, we find a store where we can fill the basic shortages in supply. In the case of houses in the suburbs, it is not so obvious. In the city, we also have easier access to various restaurants, cinemas, theaters, schools and, of course, workplaces.

Living in the suburbs, we will not be able to spontaneously go out with friends for a coffee, beer or club. It must be carefully planned, and if the plan does not work out - we will waste a lot of time and energy.

It is also assumed that the apartments are less likely to be stolen. This is because of the neighbors. It is much more difficult to break into an apartment unnoticed than into a house that is somewhere out of the way. The issue of security is really important for many people.

Disadvantages

Do you like peace and quiet? Your neighbors may like to listen to loud music. Do you like listening to loud music? Your neighbors may like peace and quiet. What does it mean? Lack of comfort and a need for compromises on both sides. In practice, this means that each party is somewhat dissatisfied and their freedom is greatly restricted.

The price per m2 of an apartment in a good location can be really expensive. This means that we have to give up more space for a really good location - or spend a really huge amount of money, which as we well know, not everyone can afford.

The prying eyes of our neighbors may also be a disadvantage, which is not one of the most pleasant elements of living in a flat, in a city, on the other hand - it also happens in small suburban towns.

Your own house with a large garden sounds beautiful, but if you consider a few issues, living in a block of flats may seem more advantageous.

First of all, "mobility". If we have a car, there is no problem, but in the absence of it, or when there is one in the family, easier movement and access to public transport is definitely in the city. And thus saving time!

Additionally, "the convenience of living". Depending on the season, summer speaks for home, preferably away from the city center. Meanwhile, when autumn comes, it gets cold, gray and drab. The picturesque landscape disappears, the paths turn to mud, living in a block of flats, in the city may turn out to be more pleasant. The prospect of clearing snow and providing fuel for the winter does not sound optimistic for everyone. Which can also be troublesome in old age.

In the block you do not have to worry about heating, cleaning the staircase and around the building, administrative issues, maintenance and renovation of the building. In fact, only what breaks down in the apartment. The house requires a lot of investment, including financial and more care to keep it in good condition.

Living in a block of flats is definitely a better option for busy people, also the elderly or sick, but also for those who want to be close to everything.

House

Benefits

When we decide to have our own, fully independent, separate house outside the city center, somewhere in the suburbs, we choose peace and quiet. We can come back to it after a hard day's work and fully relax. If we feel like we can play too loud music, if we want silence, we just choose silence. Of course, living in a house in the suburbs has more advantages - we found out about it especially recently, in the context of the problems with smog, which, as it turned out, are completely real and dangerous to our health in Poland.

Our own home is also great in the summer, when we can invite our friends to a barbecue or other party outside the house, relax together with the sounds of nature, mixed with conversations with loved ones.

A house is also a much better decision when you really like animals. Let's face it - they will get tired in an apartment, and they will certainly have a much lower comfort than in a house with a garden.

Living in the suburbs or a bit outside the city also means no problems with parking, which will only be fully appreciated by someone who often has to be in the center by car.

The price factor is also a very important issue. In the suburbs, or several dozen kilometers from the city, we will buy a large house for similar money, for which we will buy a flat in the center of a large city. The price difference per m2 is huge.

If we have more space, we also have more options. At home, we can easily arrange certain rooms for a workshop, office, wardrobe and so on. In the case of an apartment, even a little larger - it will be problematic, however.

There are more advantages - our own house, which means that we have a certain amount of our own land at our disposal. We've mentioned garden parties before, but that's not all. The garden can be very nicely arranged, thanks to which it will be the decoration of our home. In addition, you can grow various types of vegetables in it. So we can be sure that we eat really healthy, without any chemical additives.

Disadvantages

Of course, living at home is not only about the advantages. There are also some disadvantages to this that should also be taken into account. The house must be kept. Its heating costs much more than heating an apartment, which practically everyone who owns a house is aware of. The winter period can be really troublesome for the balance of our account and wallet.

The cost of heating a house throughout the winter is usually several thousand zlotys and you have to be prepared for it when you decide to choose a house. Of course, this cost can be mitigated a little - primarily by deciding to insulate the house and the selection of good, high-quality windows. Of course, it is also a secure investment, but it pays for itself quite quickly. Another good idea is a fireplace. On the one hand, it helps to save money and, on the other hand, is very enjoyable. Of course, it should be a fireplace with heat-resistant glass - so that it does not pose any threat to our safety.

It does not end with heating, there are also the costs of taking care of the property, the time we have to spend on sweeping and raking leaves, looking after the garden, and so on. Of course - some people like it, and for some it is hard work.

Another important issue is commuting - 20-30 km outside the city, this is a saving in the price per m2, but on the other hand, it is a real cost when it comes to gasoline and a lot of lost time. It is burdensome in terms of work, but not only work. A trip to the cinema or theater will be ... well, an expedition. Similarly with returns - if we want to get somewhere not by car, but e.g. by bus, we will not always have such an opportunity, night buses usually run rarely and not everywhere. Of course, you can also come back by taxi or Uber, but especially in the former case it will be a really expensive solution.
